WAUCONDA, Ill. (AP) - Police in the Chicago suburb of Cary say a search for a stolen pickup truck led to the fatal shooting of a gun-wielding man by Wauconda police.

Police Chief Patrick Finlon says the truck was found behind a Wauconda house, across the street from Monday’s shooting death of a man identified as 36-year-old John T. Nightingale.

Authorities say officers went to the house after being told by a resident someone staying in the house may be wanted by police.

The Daily Herald in Arlington Heights (https://bit.ly/1hpFDHh ) reports Nightingale suspect confronted officers with a handgun and was shot after he refused to put it down.

The results of a Tuesday autopsy weren’t released.

The two Wauconda police officers involved in the shooting are on paid leave as an investigation continues.
