NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police have arrested a man they say tried to rob a Newark bank.

Forty-six-year-old Joseph Slayton of Bear was arrested Tuesday afternoon in New Castle. Troopers say he was found sitting in a stolen car in New Castle.

Police say Slayton tried to rob TD Bank Monday morning, but fled empty-handed when the teller he demanded money from said she didn’t have any cash at her station.

Authorities say shortly after the robbery attempt, Slayton knocked down a 67-year-old woman getting out of her car and stole her purse.

He is charged with robbery, attempted robbery and receiving stolen property.
