WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) - A former Utah bus driver accused of sexually abusing two 5-year-old special needs students has been ordered stand trial.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1uI5cqs) a state judge ruled Monday that there’s enough evidence to try 61-year-old John Martin Carrell in two separate cases of child sexual abuse.
Prosecutors say Carrell repeatedly sexually abused two girls earlier this year after driving them to Altara Elementary School.
Carrell has maintained his innocence. His attorney Ron Yengich says surveillance video taken from the school bus doesn’t show enough to convict his client.
Carrell is charged in two separate cases and faces a combined 33 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. He has not yet entered a plea.
He was on leave from Canyons School District after allegations surfaced in April. He later resigned.
