GRIFFIN, Ga. (AP) - A judge has denied bond for a man accused of fatally shooting a Griffin police officer.

Michael Bowman’s attorney requested a mental evaluation during a court appearance Tuesday. Attorney Diana Davis says Bowman suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder from serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Police say Bowman shot and killed Griffin Police Officer Kevin Jordan outside a Waffle House in May while Jordan was working an off-duty security job at the restaurant.

Authorities have said Jordan removed Bowman, his girlfriend and another man for being disruptive. When Jordan attempted to arrest the woman, they say Bowman fired three times and then was shot himself by Jordan’s brother, who was in the parking lot.

WSB-TV reports that Bowman had a bandage on his face from the gunshot wound (https://bit.ly/1sUoWXw).
