NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Norman police have released the names of two officers involved in the shooting and wounding of a man who led them on a chase.
Police say officers Forrest Trey Perry and Nathaniel Worthley were involved in Saturday’s chase of 44-year-old Jimmie Alfred Wheeler and are on administrative assignment pending an investigation into the shooting. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office has said deputy Christopher Noel was also present at the shooting.
Police Capt. Tom Easley has said the officers were investigating reports of a suspicious person and vehicle about 12:30 p.m. Saturday when the suspect drove away before crashing the vehicle - then was shot by Perry.
Easley says Wheeler was treated at a hospital then arrested for eluding police. He is also wanted in Oklahoma County on drug charges.
