ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia State has named Charlie Cobb the school’s new athletic director.

Cobb, who was Appalachian State’s athletic director the last nine years, will be introduced at a Friday news conference.

Georgia State announced Thursday Cobb has signed a five-year deal, worth $300,000 annually, with an option for an additional two years. He succeeds Cheryl Levick, who stepped down in May.

Appalachian State won three straight Football Championship Subdivision national championships during Cobb’s tenure.

The 46-year-old Cobb, who played at North Carolina State, was senior associate athletics director for external operations at his alma mater for seven years before his move to Appalachian State. He previously held positions in Atlanta with the Atlanta Sports Council, the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl and the Georgia Dome.
