FOLSOM, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a Northern California man suspected of fatally stabbing his infant cousin and critically wounding his aunt before being shot and killed went to the victims’ apartment armed with two knives.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1sXPo1r) 20-year-old Jose Reyes Torres was shot by police after he emerged from the apartment, covered in blood, and advanced on an officer. Police said Wednesday that he continued to fight officers after being taken into custody. He died en route to a hospital.

Investigators have learned that Reyes Torres had gone to the residence Aug. 7 armed with two knives and began violently attacking family members within minutes after he arrived.

The motive for the attacks remains unclear.

Reyes Torres’ aunt, the infant’s mother, underwent surgery and is in stable condition.
