The Redskins released defensive end Doug Worthington and signed tight end Matt Veldman on Thursday.

Veldman (6-foot-7, 255 pounds) originally entered the NFL as a college free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars on April 30, 2012. Veldman also spent time on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions. He appeared in one game for the Lions last season, making his NFL debut at Minnesota in Week 17.

Worthington was claimed off waivers by the Redskins on Aug. 6, 2011. He played in just six games total and missed all of last season because of a torn biceps tendon.
