The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised more than $5 million in July and has nearly $27 million on hand for the coming fall sprint, The Associated Press reported.

The committee — the official campaign arm of Senate Republicans — has raised about $76 million raised this cycle and is outpacing its 2010 and 2012 totals, but has consistently lagged behind its Democratic counterpart.

Through June, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee — which has not yet released its July numbers — had brought in more than $95 million and had about $30 million on hand for the fall.

Republicans need to pick up a net of six Senate seats to regain control of the U.S. Senate this year.
