LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Two brothers have filed a lawsuit accusing the cities of Little Rock and North Little Rock of violating state law by blocking access to police communications.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports ( ) Brandon and Jeremy Mullens filed suit in Pulaski County Circuit Court on Friday. They say the cities violate the Freedom of Information Act by not proving them real-time access to encrypted radio traffic.

North Little Rock blocked public access to its police scanners in January and Little Rock followed suit late last month.

North Little Rock officials say the Mullens’ request is invalid because the law doesn’t require public agencies to provide materials immediately as they’re produced.

The Little Rock city attorney says giving them access to encrypted communications would put the city at legal risk.
