BARTOW, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man has been convicted of killing a Lakeland police officer.
A Polk County jury found 21-year-old Kyle Williams guilty on Thursday of first-degree murder. That same panel will return Monday to recommend either life in prison or the death penalty for Williams. A judge will make the final decision.
Authorities say Officer Arnulfo Crispin was attempting to perform a pat-down search of Williams and four other young men in December 2011 when Williams shot the officer in the head.
The Ledger (https://goo.gl/Ejl3mu ) reports that defense attorneys argued one of the four men with Williams was the actual killer.
