ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - An Asheville man is facing charges after the car he was driving collided with a motorcycle and killed the operator.

Area media outlets report warrants at the Buncombe County magistrate’s office say 49-year-old John Allan Zabriskie is charged with felony death by vehicle charge and driving while impaired and unsafe movement.

According to police, Zabriskie was driving his 2004 Toyota and made a left turn toward the I-240 East ramp and into the path of the motorcycle. Asheville police Sgt. Dave Romick said Zabriskie failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle, leading to the collision. The motorcyclist died at the scene.

Zabriskie is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $25,000 secured bond. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
