EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - An Eau Claire man is accused of killing his wife after she threatened to leave him.

A charge of first-degree intentional homicide was filed Tuesday against 60-year-old Thomas Biesterveld. He’s accused of fatally shooting his wife, Lois Biesterveld, late Thursday night.

Police allege Biesterveld was involved in a physical confrontation with his wife and shot her in the back at close range after she threatened to leave.

A Bloomer police officer and a Chippewa County sheriff’s deputy tried to pull over Biesterveld for driving erratically about 1:30 a.m. Friday. Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowalczyk says Biesterveld stopped and pointed a shotgun at the officers, then drove to his home after tossing the gun out of the window of his vehicle.
