SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Police say one person was shot when gunfire erupted between two groups on Market Street in San Francisco.

Police spokesman Gordon Shyy says the shots were fired shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday near Fifth Street on Market, the city’s central thoroughfare.

Police tell the San Francisco Chronicle that the victim ran into the upscale Westfield San Francisco Centre mall after he was shot.

Shyy says he has life-threatening injuries and multiple people have been detained who may have been involved.

No names or further details were released.
