YAZOO CITY, Miss. (AP) - A Yazoo County judge declared a mistrial Wednesday in a murder case after a prosecution witness was fatally shot before he could testify.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is handling the homicide case.

Authorities say 28-year-old Perry Bernard Hollins was found dead, inside his overturned car, with two gunshot wounds Monday night.

District Attorney Akillie Malone Oliver says Hollins was to testify in the trial of Jelani Miles that began Tuesday in circuit court. She says Hollins was killed a day before his testimony.

Miles is charged with murder in the October 2011 fatal shooting of Cortez Tate. Oliver said Tate was shot while he was a passenger inside of Hollins’ car.

Oliver said the trial has been continued until November.

No arrests have been made in Hollins’ death.
