BOSTON (AP) - Democratic candidate for attorney general Warren Tolman has released a new television ad focusing on the issue of guns.
The ad shows Tolman outside the National Rifle Association’s headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, pledging to push for so-called “smart gun technology,” including fingerprint trigger locks, on all new guns sold in the state - something he’s said he could do without new legislation as the state’s top law enforcement officer.
In the 30-second spot, Tolman also points to his efforts as a state lawmaker to force tobacco companies to disclose ingredients in cigarettes.
A spokesman for fellow Democratic attorney general hopeful Maura Healey said she also supports smart gun technology, but would push for a more comprehensive plan to address gun violence.
Gov. Deval Patrick recently signed a sweeping overhaul of Massachusetts’ gun laws.
