CHANNAHON, Ill. (AP) - The husband of a victim of a crash on Interstate 55 south of Chicago has filed a lawsuit against the driver of the truck that plowed into several slowly moving vehicles, killing five.

The Joliet Herald-News reports (https://bit.ly/1orEOM9) Moses Blopleh of Channahon is seeking more than $50,000 in damages from Francisco Espinal-Quiroz and Espinal Trucking.

Espinal-Quiroz of Leesburg, Indiana is charged with reckless homicide in connection with the July 22 crash near Channahon. Espinal-Quiroz’s truck struck several vehicles stopped in a construction zone, including that of Ulrike Blopleh.

The lawsuit claims Espinal-Quiroz was speeding, failed to reduce speed and didn’t safely change lanes. It also asserts the driver appeared to have impaired vision, which may have been a factor in the crash.

The lawsuit is the second filed against Espinal-Quiroz.
