RACINE, Wis. (AP) - A standoff with a man who threatened to blow up his home in Racine has ended peacefully after neighbors were evacuated.
Police say they got a 911 call from the man about 7 p.m. Monday night. Family members left the house and told officers the man was having a mental health crisis and threatened to dismantle the stove in the house.
Racine firefighters and We Energies were called to the house. Several neighboring homes were evacuated. Police negotiators were eventually able to talk the man into surrendering and he was taken to the hospital.
The incident closed a main thoroughfare in the city for about 2½ hours.
