MONTICELLO, Ind. (AP) - One of the three people fatally shot in a parking lot outside a northern Indiana furniture plant ambushed his estranged wife and her friend and co-worker when they returned from a midday break, a sheriff said Wednesday.

Israel Rogel, 42, of Wolcott, was lying in wait outside Jordan Manufacturing Co. for Delia Gonzalez, 43, of Monon, White County Sheriff Patrick Shafer said.

When Gonzalez and Augustin Oliver, 42, of Logansport returned from a break about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Rogel approached the passenger side of the front seat of the car, where his wife was sitting. He shot across her, hitting Oliver in the head while he sat in the driver’s seat, and then shot his wife in her head and chest before shooting himself in the head, Shafer said.

Oliver and Gonzalez worked together at the furniture plant and were friends, and they left the plant together in the car during a break, Shafer said.

While they were away, Rogel arrived at the plant, Shafer said. He was waiting outside the factory when the two co-workers arrived in the parking lot.

Police responding to the shootings found Rogel on the ground next to the car with a gun lying nearby, while the two co-workers remained seated in the car. Rogel and Oliver were pronounced dead at the scene, and Gonzalez died at a hospital, Shafer has said.

Autopsies performed Wednesday showed Rogel died of a single gunshot wound to the head, Oliver died from gunshots to the head, and Gonzalez died of gunshots to the head and chest, Shafer said.

Shafer has declined to discuss a motive or other details of the shootings.

Worked resumed Wednesday at the furniture plant located about 70 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

Jordan Manufacturing’s website says it’s a family-owned and -operated business that’s been in business for more than 30 years. The company makes patio furniture, umbrellas, cushions and pet beds.
