TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - The daughter of a Los Angeles Police Department officer will receive two years in prison for trying to cover up a fatal hit-and-run in Gardena last June.

The Daily Breeze reports (https://bit.ly/1otNq4p ) that 24-year-old Vanessa Marie Yanez pleaded no contest to hit-and-run driving, perjury, and vehicular manslaughter in court as part of a plea deal Wednesday.

Yanez struck Jesse Dotson Jr., a 60-year-old postal worker who was riding his bicycle to work. Dotson died in the hospital days later.

Prosecutors say Yanez reported her car stolen afterward to make it look like someone else was driving it.

Yanez will be sentenced Sept. 25. Her attorney couldn’t be reached for comment.

Investigators say there was no evidence Yanez’s father knew about her efforts to cover up the crash.
