CHICAGO (AP) — Security officers have seized a handgun found in carry-on luggage at Chicago’s Midway International Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration said Friday that the weapon was found Thursday night. The TSA says the .380 caliber Lorcin Arms firearm was in a 62-year-old man’s luggage. He was traveling from Chicago to Alabama’s Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

TSA immediately notified police. TSA officials say the man was arrested. The man wasn’t identified.

Federal officials say this is the fifth weapon found in carry-on luggage at Midway airport this year. The TSA says it found more than 1,800 firearms at checkpoints nationally last year. So far this year it has detected more than 1,000 firearms.
