NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie will visit the former gateway to America before going to court.

The governor and potential Republican presidential contender will attend a swearing-in ceremony Wednesday at the Essex County Courthouse for Superior Court Judge Richard Sules. Sules was one of eight new judges approved by the Senate in August after a yearslong stalemate.

The delays had left some of the state’s busiest courts with 21 vacancies on the bench and a huge backlog of cases.

Christie will also be making a trip to Ellis Island in the morning. He’ll lay a wreath in the Grand Hall for the group Wreaths Across America.

The nonprofit group organizes events honoring veterans across the country

Christie is not expected to take questions at either event.
