AHWATUKEE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a young woman is dead and a baby wounded after both were shot in west Ahwatukee.
Phoenix police say the woman in her early 20s was shot in the head and died at a hospital Thursday evening.
They say the baby suffered a leg wound and is reported to be in critical condition.
It’s unclear if the baby belonged to the woman and their identities still haven’t been released.
Police say the two were found on a foot path on 18th Avenue north of Pecos Road about 3 p.m. Thursday.
A resident in the area heard a baby crying and found the wounded woman and infant with gunshot wounds and called police.
They’re searching for a shooter and any possible witnesses. A motive for the shooting is unclear.
