PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - A woman charged with hitting a police officer twice with her car outside an elementary school in Pawtucket has been released on personal recognizance after appearing in court.

Court records show Nikia Mierez was charged with assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and eluding police. The 31-year-old appeared in District Court Thursday.

According to WJAR-TV (https://bit.ly/1yGTSuJ ), police said Mierez parked in a no-parking zone outside Curvin McCabe Elementary School on Wednesday.

Police say Mierez moved but was still creating a traffic problem, and refused to move again until her daughter was inside the school.

They say she hit the officer who was writing her a ticket twice with her car. The officer was not seriously injured.

Court records show Mierez has not yet been assigned a lawyer.
