LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Gwinnett County police say a married couple has been charged with 20 counts each of financial identity fraud after setting up a fake school and handing out diplomas.

Gwinnett County Police Department Cpl. Jake Smith says more than 200 victims paid $500 to $800 each for a GED program and about $5,000 for a medical assistant program at New Life Technical Academy. Police say 43-year-old Stanley Jean and 35-year-old Yessica Jean set up the fake school using the same name of an accredited school located in Hapeville.

Smith says neither is in custody.

Authorities say students attended classes and had graduation ceremonies without realizing their diplomas were not valid.
