LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police officers will wear black bands on their badges to mourn the fatal shooting of two New York City police officers by a gunman who, according to authorities, made anti-police online posts.

Police Chief Charlie Beck said on his Twitter account Saturday that LAPD officers will wear the bands across their badges to “mourn the tragic loss of two brothers.”

Authorities in New York said a 28-year-old man ambushed the officers in a patrol car and shot them to death in broad daylight before running to a subway station and killing himself. They said the gunman had announced online that he was planning to shoot two “pigs” in retaliation for the police chokehold death of Eric Garner.
