BELLEVILLE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say that two men who had just robbed a Radio Shack in northern New Jersey rammed a police car and an officer fired at the fleeing vehicle.

Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Anthony Ambrose said that the two suspects pistol whipped an employee and tied three of them up during the armed robbery.

He says the 10-year Belleville Police Department veteran fired at the car as it fled, but it wasn’t known if either of the suspects were shot.

The officer was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
