HONOLULU — Kevin Larsen scored 19 points and was one of four players to reach double figures in scoring as George Washington defeated Ohio 77-49 in the first round of the Diamond Head Classic on Monday.

Kethan Savage had 18 points, Patricio Garino added 15 and John Kopriva scored 10 for the Colonials (7-3), who held the Bobcats to 15 points on 7-of-28 shooting in the second half.

Larsen, a junior forward, also had a career-high 15 rebounds, marking his second consecutive game with a double-double. He had nine of those 15 rebounds after halftime, helping George Washington gain a 44-28 rebounding advantage that it turned into 19 second-chance points and a 46-22 edge in the paint.

Ryan Taylor led Ohio (3-5) with 13 points. His 3-pointer late in the first half cut the Bobcats’ deficit to 38-34, but the Colonials closed the half on a 5-0 run.

The Colonials shot 54.5 percent in the first half and held a 43-34 advantage at the break. They scored 12 consecutive points at one point in the second half, taking a 67-45 lead on two free throws by Garino.

The Bobcats shot just 25 percent (7-for-28) in the second half, including 1-for-9 from 3-point range, and scored just 15 points after the break.

GW will face either Colorado in the tournament semifinals on Tuesday. The Buffaloes defeated DePaul, 82-68, in another first-round game.
