Two captains in the U.S. Army relocated their wedding over the weekend to accommodate a golf game for President Obama, who is currently on vacation in Hawaii, according to Bloomberg News.
Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr. initially invited Mr. Obama to their ceremony, but received a letter Saturday saying he couldn’t come and wishing them well.
Soon after, the couple was informed they would have to move their wedding, scheduled for Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course on the Marine Corps Base Hawaii, which Mr. Obama has visited when he’s in the state.
A manager for the catering company handling logistics for the wedding said they had other sites ready to go and said people planning an event at the course when the president is in town are warned about possible last-minute shuffling.
Mr. Obama made a personal call to the bride after Bloomberg Politics asked about the scheduling conflict.
“He apologized and congratulated them,” said Jamie McCarthy, Mr. Mallue’s sister, adding that it was a “wonderful talk.”
