The Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition announced Monday that it will host a presidential candidate forum in April as part of its 15th annual spring kick-off in the early presidential state.

The influential conservative group pledged an “in-depth conversation” with the candidates on a “broad range of issues.” Past participants include former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and the group said that as in the last presidential cycle, it will be the first nonprofit “issue advocacy organization” to sponsor such an event, which will take place Saturday, April 18.

With the Republican National Committee looking to curb the number of sanctioned debates during the 2016 presidential election cycle, potential candidates appear open to participating in such unofficial events as another way of getting their message to would-be voters.
