MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Andrew Lynn Brasher is Alabama’s new solicitor general after being named to the post by Attorney General Luther Strange.

The solicitor general handles appellate litigation in state and federal courts and also advises Strange on legal and policy issues.

Brasher has served as Deputy Solicitor General since 2011. He is a 2006 graduate of Harvard Law School where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

Brasher has also served as a law clerk to Judge William H. Pryor Jr. of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Pryor is Alabama’s former attorney general.

John Neiman, the state’s former solicitor general, recently left the attorney general’s office to return to private practice.
