CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Republican Gov. Matt Mead says that making investments in Wyoming’s towns and counties represents some of the best money the state can spend.

Mead is delivering his State of the State speech to lawmakers who are meeting in Cheyenne on Monday for the first day of a four-week session focused on crafting a state budget.

The Joint Appropriations Committee has endorsed Mead’s suggestion that the state put $175 million into local government funding.

Mead says it’s critical for lawmakers to find the correct balance between spending and saving. But he says that regardless of how the markets perform on Wall Street that putting money into streets, bridges and other infrastructure around the state is always a good investment.
