RENO, Nev. (AP) - Veteran Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen has announced his candidacy for Washoe County sheriff.

Allen has spent the last 10 of his 23 years with the patrol as the agency’s public information officer. Known as “Trooper Chuck,” he’s also spent nearly 30 years of military service with the Nevada National Guard.

Washoe County Undersheriff Tim Kuzanek also is running for sheriff. He has the backing of current Sheriff Mike Haley, who announced last month he won’t seek re-election and is supporting Kuzanek as his replacement in the November election.
