HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A predicted storm is canceling events at the state Capitol, including the confirmation hearing for Connecticut’s new Department of Correction commissioner.

Snow and ice are predicted to hit the state Wednesday night and continue into Thursday.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s recently appointed prisons chief, James Dzurenda (zur-EHN’-dah), was scheduled to appear before the General Assembly’s Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee on Thursday as part of his confirmation process.

Dzurenda has been serving as the interim commissioner since Leo Arnone retired on April 1.

A confirmation hearing was also postponed for David Guay, who was nominated as executive director of the State Contracting Standards Board.

Various news conferences and committee meetings were being canceled Tuesday in advance of the storm, including a planned public hearing on Malloy’s new budget proposal.
