BIRDSBORO, Pa. (AP) - A physician says he’s running for the U.S. House seat being vacated by Republican Jim Gerlach in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Dr. Manan Trivedi, who tried unsuccessfully to oust Gerlach from the 6th District seat in 2010 and 2012, said Tuesday he’s seeking the Democratic nomination to succeed him.

Trivedi, who’s also an Iraq war veteran, faces competition from Republican-turned-Democrat Mike Parrish, a Chester County businessman with a military background.

Gerlach announced last month that he’ll step down in January at the end of his sixth term in a district that takes in parts of four counties, including Chester, Berks, Montgomery and Lebanon.

Phoenixville lawyer Ryan Costello, a Chester County commissioner, appears to be unopposed for the Republican nomination.
