MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont woman has placed with the best finish for an American woman in the Olympic individual cross-country sprint event in Sochi, Russia.

Twenty-three-year-old Sophia Caldwell of Peru, Vt., placed sixth in the woman’s individual cross-country sprint finals at the Sochi Olympic Games on Tuesday. She is a graduate of Stratton Mountain School.

After high school, Caldwell attended Dartmouth College and skied for the Dartmouth Ski Team.

This is Caldwell’s first Olympics and her first year on the U.S. Cross Country Ski Team B-Team.
