WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says President Barack Obama intends to nominate Jane Chu as chair of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The announcement was made Wednesday night.

Since 2006, Chu has been president and CEO of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Mo.

Chu has degrees from Ouachita Baptist University, Southern Methodist University, Rockhurst University, and a Ph.D. from Indiana University.

The NEA has not had a permanent chair since Rocco Landesman left the post at the end of 2012.
