LANDSOWNE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in southeastern Pennsylvania are trying to find out who beat and stabbed an elderly woman to death earlier this month.

Police in Delaware County say the body of 89-year-old Bruna Cossavella was found Feb. 5 at the bottom of basement stairs in her Lansdowne home.

Investigators said a relative found her body after neighbors called to say they had been unable to get in touch with her.

The Rev. Anthony Cossavella delivered the funeral Mass for his mother Monday at St. Philomena Church, where she had been a member for more than six decades.

Chief Daniel Donegan said police found no signs of forced entry to the home and the premises didn’t appear to have been ransacked, although detectives were still trying to determine if anything was missing.
