INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis police say a man badly wounded in a shootout with officers had two arrest warrants.

They say 44-year-old Keith Manuel had warrants for possession of cocaine and paraphernalia in Indianapolis and for burglary out of adjacent Johnson County.

Police say Manual was hospitalized after being shot several times Tuesday night. He hasn’t been formally charged for the shootout.

Sgt. Kendale Adams says a squad car was hit by gunshots in the exchange but the three officers involved weren’t hurt.

The chase began when an officer tried to stop a pickup truck for a traffic violation on the city’s southwest side. Adams says the truck stopped at a dead-end drive in an industrial area, with Manuel exiting the truck and shooting at officers.

Two others in the truck weren’t injured.
