IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say an Iowa inmate at a county jail was recorded attacking another inmate.

Iowa City police say 22-year-old Deandre Lamar Ronald Irby attacked the male inmate Monday night without warning. The inmate was participating in a video visitation at the time.

Irby is accused of punching the inmate at least eight times in the head and neck and slamming him to the floor. Multiple jail surveillance cameras captured the attack.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (https://icp-c.com/1bpyt4c ) the victim suffered scratches and back pain.

Irby is at the jail on a fifth-degree theft charge. He faces a serious misdemeanor of assault causing bodily injury. Court records do not list an attorney.
