EDGEWOOD, Md. (AP) - The Harford County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy shot a man who refused to drop a machete.

Deputies and paramedics responded to a report of an overdose victim on Crownwood Court in Edgewood on Thursday night and learned a man had pushed a woman down a flight of stairs.

The sheriff’s office says deputies spotted a man with a machete in front of the home and followed him into the woods. When the man approached one deputy, refusing to drop the knife, the sheriff’s office says the deputy fired, striking the man several times.

Officials say the man, Brian Ogle, was taken to Shock Trauma, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. A woman was taken to an area hospital for evaluation with minor injuries.
