D.C. had the highest percentage of adults employed full-time across the country in 2013, according to a poll released Friday.

D.C.’s so-called “payroll to population” rate was 55.7 percent last year, meaning more than half of adults over 18 were working more than 30 hours a week. North Dakota trailed D.C. in second place by more than three points at 52.2 percent.

West Virginia had the lowest percentage of employed adults at 36.1 percent, though many factors other than unemployment can affect the number. For example, in states where the population is older and retired, the number would be lower. Florida is also in the bottom 10 at 38.3 percent.

Poll results come from telephone interviews throughout 2013 with more than 350,000 adults across the country. The margin of error is 1 percent.
