President Obama reportedly asked HBO chief Richard Plepler last week if he could score advance copies of “True Detective” and “Game of Thrones.”

According to the New York Times, the president stopped Mr. Plepler at last week’s state dinner for French President Francois Hollande, telling the HBO chief that he’d like to watch the shows over the holiday weekend.

There are three episodes of “True Detective” left in its first season, and “Game of Thrones” doesn’t start into its fourth season until April 2.

Mr. Obama also took to Twitter on Thursday in excitement for Netflix’s second season premiere of “House of Cards.”

“Tomorrow: @HouseOfCards. No spoilers, please,” he tweeted.

The president has also said he favors Showtime’s “Homeland,” which first aired in 2011 and is ramping up for its fourth season.
