ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a 15-year-old girl has died, days after she was shot with her mother while they were in the driveway of a suburban Chicago home.

The Cook County coroner’s office says Briana Valle died Monday at Loyola University Medical Center.

She was shot in the head Feb. 13. Her 33-year-old mother was shot in the neck and remains in good condition.

The Romeoville shooting has been described by police as a targeted attacked.

Twenty-three-year-old Erick M. Maya of Cicero is being held on $5 million bond. He’s charged with two counts of attempted murder along with aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon.

It’s unclear if prosecutors will upgrade the charges after Valle’s death.

Romeoville police Chief Mark Turvey says Valle and Maya once dated.
