ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - A 34-year-old man shot by a Roswell officer after the man charged a woman and her children with a knife is facing aggravated assault charges.

The Roswell police said Tuesday that Alonzo Perez faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, aggravated assault against a household member, and aggravated assault stemming from the Thursday shooting.

According to investigators, Perez was shot after an officer’s stun gun failed to stop him following a domestic violence call.

Perez was transported to a local hospital for medical attention and was later flown out of town for further treatment. After he was discharged, Perez was arrested on a parole violation warrant.

He is being held on a $50,000 surety bond.

It is not known if he had an attorney.
