PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A 14-year-old south Philadelphia boy has died after being stabbed last week and a teenage girl is facing charges.

Police said Azim Chaplin died Tuesday at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, five days after suffering a knife wound to the chest.

Last week, police arrested a 15-year-old girl in connection with the Feb. 17 stabbing and charged her as an adult with attempted murder. Investigators said those charges will likely be upgraded now that the boy has died.

Police said the victim was stabbed once in the chest, puncturing his heart. Exactly what sparked the stabbing remained unclear.

The Associated Press is not naming the girl because of her age.
