BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police are investigating two shootings involving children who accidentally shot themselves.
Police say a 3-year-old boy was rushed to a local hospital Tuesday evening by a family friend after he shot himself with a gun that he found inside a sofa.
Investigators say a 6-year-old boy also shot himself in his foot Tuesday night. Lt. Sean Edwards says the boy was in the backseat of his uncle’s car when the shooting happened. Police say the man was driving and thought he blew a tire.
The boy has been treated and released from Children’s Hospital and the 3-year-old boy is in stable condition.
It’s unclear if charges will be filed.
Police Chief A.C. Roper says both children are recovering but gun owners need to remember to safely store their firearms.
