RICHMOND, R.I. (AP) - Richmond police say they arrested a 15-year-old boy on child molestation charges after he fled to a swamp when officers arrived at his home.

Police announced the arrest Wednesday. They say the investigation began last month after Charlestown police received a complaint alleging the boy sexually abused a minor.

The boy’s name wasn’t released because of his age.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1jGtn30 ) that two Richmond officers went to the boy’s home after midnight on Jan. 3 and he jumped out a second-floor window. Police say he ran to a nearby swamp, where officers found him wet and shivering in freezing temperatures.

The boy was placed in state custody pending further investigation, and police filed charges on Feb. 11. He awaits trial in Family Court.
