IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California stem-cell company has received federal approval to test a new treatment for ovarian cancer on patients.
The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1ghN7rd ) it will be the third clinical trial by California Stem Cell Inc. to use a method that teaches a patient’s immune system to recognize and attack the seeds of deadly tumors.
The Irvine-based firm announced Tuesday that it received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for a phase-two clinical trial that could begin this year.
The tests will likely involve 99 women with stage three or four ovarian cancer, as well as cancer of the fallopian tube or of the uterine lining.
Surgeries conducted for the trial could take place at Hoag Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach.
