EAGLE PASS, Texas (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a border county businessmen has pleaded guilty to role in an Eagle Pass bid-rigging scheme.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that the 64-year-old Saul Lombrano admitted to paying a bribe to a Maverick County employee in return for a contract to build a drain swell. The indictment alleges Lombrano received $14,500 for a 155-feet long swell he never delivered. Lombrano kept $5,000 for himself and gave the rest to the employee as a bribe.
The contractor faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. He remains free on bond pending sentencing still to be scheduled.
Two other businessmen are charged in a separate indictment for allegedly bribing Eagle Pass officials.
